Ports of Call

San Diego (Day 1)

San Diego is California's "first city," with roots dating back to 1796. San Diego's beautiful harbor is a lovely place to stroll and explore. Historic Seaport Village, along the Embarcadero, is filled with fascinating shops and galleries. But if you wish to explore further, San Diego offers a world of excitement.
Attractions & Activities
Many popular museums, such as the San Diego Museum of Art, the San Diego Natural History Museum, the San Diego Museum of Man, the Museum of Photographic Arts, and the San Diego Air & Space Museum are located in Balboa Park, which is also the location of the San Diego Zoo. The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego (MCASD) is located in La Jolla and has a branch located at the Santa Fe Depot downtown. The downtown branch consists of two building on two opposite streets. The Columbia district downtown is home to historic ship exhibits belonging to the San Diego Maritime Museum, headlined by the Star of India, as well as the unrelated San Diego Aircraft Carrier Museum featuring the USS Midway aircraft carrier.

Honolulu (Day 7)

Hawaii's capital is indeed the jewel city of the Pacific. From Diamond Head and the world-famous beaches of Waikiki, to the inspiring memorials of Pearl Harbor and the Punchbowl National Cemetery, to the only royal palace ever constructed on U.S. soil.
Attractions & Activities
By far the most popular destinations in Oahu, Pearl Harbor and the Arizona Memorial are moving tributes to important historic events. Experience the serenity of the Punchbowl National Cemetery, featuring the "Courts of the Missing." And visit the chapel and the detailed mosaic maps of the Pacific theaters in World War II and Korea.

Kona (Day 8)

Kona is a moku or district on the Big Island of Hawaii in the State of Hawaii. In the current system of administration of Hawaii County, the moku of Kona is divided into North Kona District (Kona `Akau) and South Kona District (Kona Hema). The term "Kona" is sometimes used to refer to its largest town, Kailua-Kona. Other towns in Kona include Kealakekua, Keauhou, Holualoa, Hōnaunau and Honalo. In the Hawaiian language, kona means leeward or dry side of the island, as opposed to ko`olau which means windward or the wet side of the island. In the times of Ancient Hawaii, Kona was the name of the leeward district on each major island. In Hawaii, the Pacific anticyclone provides moist prevailing northeasterly winds to the Hawaiian islands, resulting in rain when the winds contact the windward landmass of the islands - the winds subsequently lose their moisture and travel on to the leeward (or kona) side of the island. When this pattern reverses, it can produce a Kona storm from the west. Kona has cognates with the same meaning in other Polynesian languages. In Tongan, the equivalent cognate would be tonga; for windward, the associated cognate would be tokelau.
Attractions & Activities
Kealakekua Bay, where Captain James Cook lost his life, is one of the best snorkeling spots on the island. The area is a state park and conservation site, teeming with undersea life. It's a great place for both experienced snorkelers and novices to explore the marine world.

Nuku Hiva (Day 13)

Nuku Hiva is the main island in the northern archipelago with the town of Taiohae serving as the administrative and economic centre. It is best known for its Ahuii waterfall in the Hakaui Valley. It is the largest island in the Marquises archipelago.
Attractions & Activities
Hakapaa Bay - One of the two bays used in the television show "Survivor."Taipivai Valley - Large, fertile valley made famous by American writer Herman Melville.Cathedral of Notre Dame - The church contains magnificent wood sculptures made by local artisans.

Rangiroa Atoll (Day 15)

One of the islands of French Polynesia

Moorea (Day 16)

Moorea´s steep, green velvety peaks are visible from Papeete, 12 miles away. At the base of the mountains are reef-protected turquoise lagoons. To savor Moorea´s breath-taking beauty, find a deserted beach or circle the island by car or bike past quaint villages and ancient temples.
Attractions & Activities
There are many reasons for Moorea's popularity with tourists. In addition to its high and scenically dramatic interior mountains, Moorea is unique among the Society Islands in having magnificent expanses of both white and black sand beaches. It is no stretch to say that the beaches of Moorea Island can be rated among the worlds finest.

Papeete (Days 16, 17)

The uninhibited waterfront town of Papeete lies on the island of Tahiti, the most magical name in the South Pacific. Spend a day on a palm-fringed beach, visit the Gauguin Museum or tour the lush interior to see the waterfalls. In town, sample boutiques and sidewalk cafes along Boulevard Pomare.
Attractions & Activities
Tahara Hill and Matavai Bay - The perfect viewpoint of the bay where Lt. William Bligh's HMS Bounty anchored in the novel, "Mutiny on the Bounty."Point Venus - This lighthouse now stands where James Cook and the scientists of his expedition observed the Transit of Venus in 1769.Gauguin Museum - This museum chronicles the French artist's life in Polynesia and includes two sketches and a sculpture.
